What do I need to start my application?
Please refer to our application page. It contains everything you need to know about accessing the online application system. It also provides instructions for submitting your application.
Can I withdraw my application?
Yes. You can withdraw your application at any time by sending us an email to confirm your withdrawal. Please note that withdrawing your application will remove all your details from the system. You will have to re-enter all your information in order to submit.
Can I use artificial intelligence / ChatGPT to help me write my application?
Using Artificial Intelligence (AI) software to generate answers to UPLIFTED’s essay questions is strictly prohibited. Applicants must submit their own original work. You must not use someone else’s work or present content generated by AI tools like ChatGPT as your own. Doing so violates UPLIFTED’s guidelines on plagiarism and fraud.
If your application is found to be fraudulent or copied, it will be disqualified. UPLIFTED uses tools to detect fraud, plagiarism, and AI-generated content in applications.
You will be asked to confirm that you have not used artificial intelligence to generate your answers as part of the application form.
Where can I find guidance for references?
If your application progresses, you must send two reference letters to info.upliftedme@gmail.com prior to your interview and by the date listed on the application timeline. Learn more about references on our references page.
What education documents do I need to provide as part of my UPLIFTED application?
No documents are required to be uploaded in order to submit an application to UPLIFTED.
In the subsequent stages of the process, applicants who are selected for interview will be required to provide documents.
For education documents, you must provide your letter of admission into a state or federal Nigerian university. You also need to provide evidence of your academic performance results e.g. academic transcript showing your CGPA results above 3.0 if you are a university student.
Applicants who are yet to start their university degree must provide their GCSE / WAEC / NECO results with grades A-C only and UTME / JAMB score above 220. We require the original documents which do not need to be translated into English.
How do I change the details I filled in my UPLIFTED application form?
It is not possible to make any changes to your application after you’ve submitted it.
If you are invited to interview, you will have the opportunity to raise any changes you need made with the interview panel.
Please note, these changes are limited to personal data and do not include changes to the contents of your application, such as essays.
How can I tell if my application has been successfully submitted?
Once you have completed all the steps and clicked on the ‘submit application’ button, you will be advised that you have successfully submitted your application.
Can I write the reference on behalf of my referee if they don’t have the time to do it?
No, you cannot write your own reference.
My referees are not competent in the English language. Can they submit the reference in their native language?
References not written in English must be translated and notarised by an official translator. Any unofficial translations will not be accepted.
If I applied in a previous year but was not selected, can I use the same reference letters?
You can use the same referees if necessary and they may provide the same reference letters, but we recommend asking the referees to update them so that they accurately reflect your current skills and abilities.
Will I be notified if I am not selected for UPLIFTED after my interview?
Yes. All scholarship candidates will be notified about the outcome of their interview from early June.
Can I have an extension to my application?
No. Extensions will not be granted under any circumstances. We already provide a generous application period for UPLIFTED scholarships. We need to meet timelines set in the UPLIFTED application process to enable all successful applicants resume their studies promptly.
Can I reschedule my UPLIFTED interview if I can no longer attend the appointment?
You should give the UPLIFTED team at least two working days’ notice in case you’re unable to attend at your scheduled time.
Only in exceptional circumstances will an additional appointment be made available. Failure to attend your interview may result in your withdrawal from the application process.
What questions will be asked at the interview?
The interview will be an opportunity to discuss some of the information you provided in the application form. The panel will ask questions that will enable you to fully explain your personal and professional aspirations and how UPLIFTED can facilitate these goals for you. As part of your interview, your courses and/or degree programme will also be discussed so you should be prepared to talk about these. See our interviews page for more.
Who is on the interview panel?
The interview panel will include representatives from the UPLIFTED team and independent assessors.
Where will my UPLIFTED interview take place?
All interviews are scheduled to take place online and we are confident that we can provide applicants with a fair and smooth interview process in this way.

Do I have to prepare a presentation for the interview?
No. The interview will be competency-based and we will assess the potential of each shortlisted applicant to achieve success. See our interviews page for more.
Will the interview be conducted in English?
Yes
I have received an invitation to interview for an UPLIFTED scholarship. When do I need to book my interview?
Interview slots are available on a first-come-first-served basis. We therefore suggest you book your interview as soon as possible. See our interviews page for more.
How are UPLIFTED scholars selected?
All UPLIFTED applications undergo a rigorous review and selection process.
Applications are first sifted and checked by the UPLIFTED team against initial eligibility criteria. Please read our eligibility criteria and scholarships policy for more.
Are underprivileged orphans prioritised for UPLIFTED scholarships?
Yes. UPLIFTED scholarships are intended for youths from underserved communities and/or background, particularly underprivileged orphans. Please read our eligibility criteria and scholarships policy for more.
What evidence do I need to provide as an orphan?
As an orphan, you need to send a copy of the deceased parent’s death certificate to info.upliftedme@gmail.com before your interview date. Please contact the UPLIFTED team if anything.
What evidence do I need to show as proof of hardship?
All UPLIFTED applicants need to provide 12 month bank statement showing proof of household income. Each application will be assessed on it’s own merit.
I have previously received an UPLIFTED Scholarship, can I apply again?
UPLIFTED scholarships are for first undergraduate degrees only. This means that graduates who hold a first degree are not eligible to apply.
However, successful applicants will receive scholarships for one year of study and they can reapply each year till they graduate, if they continue to meet the UPLIFTED eligibility criteria.
I have not yet been accepted into a university. Can I still apply for an UPLIFTED Scholarship?
Yes. Scholars can apply for an UPLIFTED Scholarship, even if applications are not yet open at their chosen university. They can also apply if they have not yet been accepted onto a course, provided they meet the UPLIFTED eligibility criteria. Such applicants must provide their O’Level and UTME/JAMB results as evidence for their academic performance.
You are encouraged to apply for your chosen courses of study as soon as possible after university applications open.
Can I apply for an UPLIFTED Scholarship to study at a university outside Nigeria?
No. UPLIFTED Scholarships are available for study in Nigeria only.
Can I apply for an UPLIFTED Scholarship to study at any university that is not a state or federal university?
No. UPLIFTED Scholarships are available for study in state and federal universities in Nigeria only.
How much will UPLIFTED pay towards my university education?
Each successful applicant will be given a scholarship of up to 500,000 Naira annually to cover their university tuition and educational expenses.
If your UPLIFTED Scholarship is successful, your tuition fees will be paid directly to your university. You will also receive funds for your educational expenses. Please note that all expenses must be accounted for with supporting evidence such as receipts.
Are there further requirements after my UPLIFTED interview?
Yes, if you are selected for an UPLIFTED scholarship. You will be invited to an award ceremony in August before your scholarship is granted in full. You can bring a family or friend to the celebration event where you will meet with other UPLIFTED Scholars.
UPLIFTED will fund your travel and miscellaneous costs before you attend the event.
