Caring together

Imagine a world where every youth receives quality education and support, growing into the compassionate leaders of tomorrow.

How it all began

2–3 minutes

I’m wide awake and it’s only 3AM, why?

My phone’s buzzing frantically, what happened? what’s happening? Oh, it’s my mum, she’s sending me information about new referrals she received for an orphan mission. After all, I asked for her help with conducting a research for the God-given mission. She wants to meet asap!

I placed my phone on flight mode and suddenly there’s quiet. Can you hear it? It’s peacefully quiet but I’m still wide awake. Okay, let’s pray.

As I started praying, the Holy Spirit took me on a journey and it all began to make sense. Though I only shared the vision with her briefly a few weeks ago yet, the vision struck a chord in my mum’s mind. She was eager to start even before the indicative start date I gave to her.

I was raised by an orphan. It only just dawned on me. By sharing the vision for the orphan mission with my mum, I was giving her young self an opportunity. It allowed her to experience a life she never knew existed till recently.

There is hope…

Having lost her mum, a beautiful young woman in her formative years, she grew up knowing very few privileges. Imisi grew up in a polygamous home. She thought her life was about to improve when she moved in with a well-to-do relative after losing her mother. Little did she know that her vicissitudes of fortunes had just begun. Although I never heard her complain, she often referenced her life there. Her references were laced with lots of hardship that no child should ever have to endure.

Imisi fought her way through life. She acquired her Bachelor’s degree in her late thirties. She then became a state Director of Education before retiring in her sixties.

Understandably, tears rolled down the sides of my face as I lay in bed and connected the dots. This wasn’t just another daughter-mother exchange. My mum was walking down memory lane. She saw one of her many missed opportunities, and she was determined to make a difference for as many people as she could.

Being an orphan can make life harder, yet there’s hope. Hoping and believing in God can make life easier. It can lead to a full and joyful life like my mum’s. Through hard work, dedication, showcasing one’s self, and truly believing in God, life can be beautiful.
